What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a way of exfoliating. A handheld diamond-tipped applicator passes over the skin, and gentle suction lifts away the outermost layer of dead skin cells. It works on the surface only, which is why it needs no recovery time.
How often should one do a microdermabrasion facial?
It is usually done as a series, not once. The American Academy of Dermatology describes treatments weekly, every two weeks or monthly, depending on the skin and the aim. Jiman tells you what spacing suits yours.
What does skin feel like after microdermabrasion?
For some people a little pink or tight for a day or so, rather like mild windburn. Skin is more sensitive to the sun afterwards, so sunscreen matters.
Is there anything to do beforehand?
Let sunburned or irritated skin settle first. You may be asked to pause strong exfoliating products for a few days before.
